This morning I ran into an issue with my hp pavilion 15bc210nd. I play videogames a lot and today during play my screen froze up. I waited a minute before I forced shutdown with the power button. The screen at that time displayed still the image from the moment of crashing.
After the shutdown I restarted the device. The power button lit up, the fan (who had gotten noisy lately) started turning but the screen remained dark for a while. Then the backlight kicked in (still black) and a blue box showed the message: "the selected boot device failed. Press enter to continue. " After doing so, the device turns off again.
After this I consulted this sites guidelines. I did the following:
- hard reset (non removable battery) still same error message
- bios recovery (windows button+b) this actually ran. It recovered and checked and gave a 500 code at the end, but after continuing it still gave the initial boot device error
- trying to access bios menus through f2 and f10, doing this only resulted in the machine starting to beep repetitively before showing the initial boot device error
- then I tried the first two steps again, resulting in the same error as before
I did all these steps according to the guidelines, removing external components (mouse, headset) and removing/applying the power chord whenever indicated. What I did not do was opening up the backside and messing with the battery and solid state drive. I'm not comfortable with this and I don't want to risk the warantee.
How should I continue? I couldnt find the exact issue on the forums so far and I don't feel comfortable with the next steps suggested in the guide. I also couldnt follow the steps of downloading a new bios,I dont have a bios recovery usb or whatsoever and I couldnt enter the bios menus at all. Honestly I don't think it would matter right now because I fear there is something wrong with my ssd.
Thank you for your time, I hope someone can help me. Otherwise I will contact hp by phone and probably hand over the device to their care, or whatever the next step would be.
