Hello Aliyan1,

Thank you for your query,

Boot Device Not Found Error (3F0) on HP ProBook

The "Boot Device Not Found" error with code 3F0 indicates a potential issue with the hard drive of your HP ProBook. This is a common issue that can be resolved by checking the connection and conducting some diagnostics.

Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Disconnect any external devices and turn off the laptop.
    • Disconnect the power adapter.
    • Remove the battery (if removable).
    • Hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then turn on the computer.
  2. Verify BIOS Settings:

    • Turn on your laptop and repeatedly press the Esc key until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup Utility.
    • Navigate to the "Advanced" tab using the arrow keys and select "Boot Options."
    • Ensure that the Boot Order is set to boot from the hard drive first.
    • Save changes and exit using F10.
  3. Check Hard Drive Connection:

    • Power off the laptop, and remove the battery and power adapter.
    • Access your hard drive compartment and ensure the hard drive is securely connected.
    • Reseat the hard drive if necessary.
  4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

    • Turn on your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Select "Component Tests," then "Storage" and "Quick Test" to check the hard drive's condition.
    • If the Quick Test passes but issues remain, consider running the "Extensive Test."
  5. Run a Hard Drive Test:

    • If diagnostics indicate a problem with the hard drive, you may need to replace it.
  6. Using a Recovery Drive:

    • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you might need to use a recovery drive to reinstall the operating system.

Additional Notes

  • Hard Drive Failure: If the hard drive fails the diagnostics test, it may need to be replaced. You can contact HP Support for assistance with a replacement and repairs.
  • Backup: If you can boot into any environment (like a live bootable USB), back up your data to prevent data loss due to hardware failure.

For more detailed instructions, you may consult the HP support website or refer to your HP ProBook's maintenance manual.
