My lap top (HP) says “boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard disk”. What does this mean?  My laptop won’t go past this screen.

Can you provide the model or product number of the machine

You could also try performing hardware diagnostics at boot and see if the Hard Drive has any problems.

Turn off the PC by holding the power button

Turn on the PC and repeatedly keep hitting the ESC key until startup menu appears

Press F2 to enter diagnostics

Perform the system test or at least the Hard Drive test
