90B fan error / performed a hard reset then went into set-up with F10 and reset BIOS to default settings, saved and exited. That was per a troubleshooting procedure I found on the HP website. Upon reboot a new error message 3F0 appeared: boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard drive. Going back into Setup Utility I see F.27 BIOS version and am suspecting corruption & need to reload BIOS from a USB stick (??) but don't know if that's advisable, nor can I find a download for it on hp.com. The notebook is out of support. What should I do? This notebook belongs to a teenage niece and she's really attached to it, so trying to save it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, the Windows+B+Power button step cleared the 3F0 error, then other key reset steps didn't change anything. I am left with the 90B error as it originally occurred, so I will proceed with a fan replacement. A couple of weeks ago I did take the laptop apart to clean the fan in case there was a lint ball or other physical obstruction, but I didn't find much dust and the blades were free to move. I probably should have be did not try plugging in power at that point to watch how the fan behaved -- simply reassembled, then still found the 90B error. So I guess it's likely that (with 3F0 resolved) the only thing left to do is replace the fan and see what happens. I'll post again with notes about the outcome once that's done.

Hi @bw44fr,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the errors you're encountering indicate hardware issues. Here's how to address them:
Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.
1. Turn off the Unit.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
4. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.
5. Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
7. Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.
Step 2
Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit
Step3
The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit
Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.
90B Error: Fan Issue
The 90B error indicates a problem with the system fan, usually due to overheating, dust, or a malfunction.
Check for Dust and Debris:
- Power off the laptop, disconnect the charger, and remove the battery.
- Use compressed air to blow out dust from the fan and vents.
- Ensure the fan spins freely.
Fan Replacement:
- If cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, the fan might need replacement. You can find a replacement fan online by searching for the laptop model (Pavilion G6 2336sr) and "replacement fan."
Cooling Pad:
- As a temporary measure, use a cooling pad to prevent overheating until the fan is fixed.
3F0 Error: Boot Device Not Found
This indicates the laptop cannot detect the hard drive or boot partition. Resetting the BIOS may have altered settings or exposed an underlying issue.
Check Boot Order:
- Press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to the Boot Options menu.
- Ensure the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.
Hard Drive Connection:
- Turn off the laptop and remove the back panel.
- Reseat the hard drive by disconnecting and reconnecting it securely.
Run Diagnostics:
- In BIOS, look for Diagnostics or press F2 during startup to access hardware tests.
- Run a test on the hard drive to check for failure.
Reinstall Operating System:
- If the hard drive is functional but the boot partition is corrupt, you’ll need to reinstall Windows.
- Create a bootable USB for Windows 8.1 using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool on another computer.
BIOS Recovery:
- If you suspect BIOS corruption:
- Download the BIOS file for the Pavilion G6 series from HP's website or use the HP Support Assistant.
- Create a BIOS recovery USB following HP’s guide: Recover BIOS.
- Boot the laptop with the USB to restore the BIOS.
Refer to this document: 900, 901, 909, 90A, 90B, 90E, 90F, 911 error is displayed
