HP ENVY x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-es0000 (743T0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My new HP Envy x360 takes almost 10 minutes to boot. If I use it every day, it's fine. But the first day I don't log onto it, I go through the 10-minute process when I do (ie; over the weekend).  During the boot process, the system32\config\exe window will flash a couple of times.

Any ideas? I know there aren't updates or scanning occurring, because I check to see when the last updates/scans were performed once I'm logged in.

Hi @NancyG360,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

A 10-minute boot time is definitely longer than normal for your HP Envy x360, especially if it happens only after a period of inactivity. The flashing system32\config\exe window suggests that there may be a background process or a corrupted file that's causing delays.

Here are a few steps you can try to fix the issue:

1. Disable Fast Startup:

Fast Startup can sometimes cause boot issues, especially after long periods of inactivity.

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click on "Choose what the power buttons do" from the left pane.
  • Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable."
  • Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" and save changes.

2. Run SFC and DISM Commands:

There could be some corrupted system files causing the issue.

  • Open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Win + X > Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin)).
  • Type the following commands one at a time and press Enter after each:

  • Allow each command to complete before running the next one. These commands will check for and repair any corrupted system files.

3. Check for Malware or Unwanted Software:

  • Perform a full system scan using Windows Defender or any trusted third-party antivirus software.
  • Run an anti-malware tool like Malwarebytes to check for potential malware that might be affecting your startup.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @NancyG360 ,

Please find the remaining steps below.

4. Disable Startup Programs:

Too many startup programs can slow down the boot time.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  • Go to the "Startup" tab and disable any unnecessary programs that you don't need to start immediately.

5. Check Event Viewer Logs:

The Event Viewer can provide specific error logs that may help identify the root cause.

  • Press Win + R, type eventvwr.msc, and press Enter.
  • Go to Windows Logs > System or Application and look for any errors or warnings around the time of the slow boot.

6. Update Drivers and BIOS:

  • Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially for storage devices (like SSDs or hard drives).
  • Check for any available BIOS updates for your model on the HP Support website.

7. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any pending updates. Installing the latest updates may resolve any bugs causing the issue.

8. Check the Disk Health:

There could be a problem with your hard drive or SSD.

  • Open Command Prompt as an Administrator.
  • Type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter. This command will check your disk for errors and attempt to fix them. You may need to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
