Hello, @SVining1970 - Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

Going through your post, I see that you are getting “C:\WINDOWS\system32” message while starting up your HP PC. I will certainly try help you find a solution 🙂

First off, is that all the error message? Ideally, the message path will specify more than “C:\WINDOWS\system32” and will display the complete path of the file that is creating the issue. Please do let me know the same.

Alternatively, try to restore your PC to try and fix this issue. System Restore automatically creates restore points, a memory of the system files and settings on the computer at a particular point in time. Then, when you use System Restore to restore your computer to a point in time before an issue began, System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press and hold (or right-click) the Start  button, and then select Control Panel.
  2. Search Control Panel for Recovery.
  3. Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
  4. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

You can also try refreshing your PC to try and fix this issue. Here are the steps:

  • Simply find the Shut down / Restart menu and hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on Restart.
  • Once you’ve done this, instead of fully rebooting, the blue boot options menu displays.
  • To access the options for refreshing or resetting your PC or to use the advanced tools, click Troubleshoot.
  • Select the “Refresh your PC” option to refresh your PC.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck 🙂
