HP OmniBook 5 16 inch Laptop AI PC 16-af1000 (B0VN0AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I am experiencing serious stability issues with an HP OmniBook 5 Laptop 16-af1xxx.

The PC has repeatedly crashed with a “CRITICAL PROCESS DIED” blue-screen error and has also experienced unexpected reboots.

There is also a separate shutdown problem: when I select Shut Down, the display turns off, but the fans continue running and some indicator lights remain on. The system does not completely power off unless I force it to shut down by holding the power button.

I checked the system logs and found several indications that this may be a hardware-level issue rather than a normal Windows/software problem:

  • Approximately 11,936 PCIe hardware errors were recorded over the past two days.

  • The errors appear to identify the NVMe storage controller.

  • There were three fatal hardware errors, followed by sudden reboots.

  • Windows also failed to create crash dumps, which may be related to the storage instability.

  • At one point, the system reported that the hard disk/storage device was not installed or detected.

The BIOS has already been updated to the latest available version. I have also already attempted a complete power discharge/de-electrification procedure: the PC was turned off, disconnected from power, and left without power for approximately 40 seconds before being powered on again. This did not resolve the issue.

Based on these symptoms, I am concerned that the problem may be related to the NVMe SSD, its PCIe connection, or the motherboard, although I would appreciate confirmation from someone with more expertise.

The computer was originally purchased in Japan, and the standard warranty has expired. I am currently using the computer outside Japan.

I would appreciate any advice on further diagnostics. In particular:

  1. Is there a recommended HP Hardware Diagnostics test for the NVMe/storage controller or PCIe connection?

  2. Could these symptoms indicate a failing NVMe SSD or motherboard?

  3. Is there any additional diagnostic procedure I should perform before considering hardware replacement?

  4. If a hardware failure is confirmed, is paid repair/service available for this model despite the expired warranty and original purchase in Japan?

I can provide additional error codes, diagnostic results, Event Viewer information, or hardware specifications if needed.

Thank you.
