Hi @tonydb5656,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for the detailed description — I understand how frustrating this issue can be, especially after trying everything you can think of. Based on what you've shared, your HP ENVY Laptop's built-in camera intermittently appearing as “USB Boot” or “Intel Camera” in Device Manager suggests a hardware detection issue, possibly caused by:
- Faulty camera hardware
- Loose internal connection (camera cable)
- Firmware/BIOS misbehavior
- Driver or USB controller conflicts
Step-by-Step Fixes to Try:
1. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS.
- Navigate to the Advanced or Security tab.
- Look for an option like Integrated Camera or Webcam.
- Make sure it is enabled.
- Save and exit (usually F10 again).
2. Disable USB Boot (if not needed)
- In BIOS, go to the Boot tab.
- Disable USB Boot if you don’t need to boot from USB devices.
- This might prevent the system from misidentifying the camera as a USB boot device.
3. Reinstall Camera Drivers
- Open Device Manager.
- Under Imaging Devices or Cameras, right-click the camera (Intel Camera or USB Boot) and choose Uninstall device.
- Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device.
- Restart your PC. Windows should reinstall the correct driver automatically.
- Alternatively, download the latest camera driver from the HP Support site.
4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
- Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your model (HP ENVY 17t-cg100) and download the latest BIOS and Intel Chipset drivers.
- Install them and restart your system.
5. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all available updates.
- Sometimes, Windows updates include fixes for hardware compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
