Can I boot from Tails?

I am planning to buy an HP - 14" Touch-Screen Chromebook - Intel Celeron - 4GB Memory - 32GB eMMC Flash Memory (Model:14-CA061DX).  I intend to use it as a "safe laptop" while traveling inside and outside the U.S.  I want to  install a  light Linux distro and then run Tails only. I would not use the Chromebook for any other purpose than emails and surfing the Internet while running Tails as the OS.

My question is:  Is this possible on this model or are there BIOS-access restrictions in place that make it impossible to boot from a USB stick?  Many thanks for any help.

The answer to your last question is yes -- probably. Newer PCs come with Windows configured in UEFI mode and that means that Secure Boot has been enabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings.  IF you press F9 repeatedly while rebooting with the USB sick inserted and don't see the stick in the boot list, that is probably the issue.

You have to go into the BIOS/UEFI and disable Secure Boot and try again.  IF the USB stick still is not listed, then you need to look through your BIOS/UEFI settings for one named Disable Booting from Mobile Devices.  That will prevent the PC from booting from USB sticks.

Sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros -- so if these do not work, you would have to check the support forum for the distro you are trying to use.
