So I've tried this and it still didn't work...I did see that the computer has a slot for another hard drive... So I plugged in a ribbon cable and a 1 TB SATA SSD and it reads it...is it better to do a clean Windows 11 install or use the HP recovery tool?

Try the recovery usb drive first and hopefully it detects the SATA drive.

The installation setup didn't display any storage driver files. Correct?

So I was able to install the HP recovery on the empty HDD SSD slot and plugged the original m.2. driver to an external USB case and accessed all the files on the original drive.

That's great that you were able to install Windows on the SATA drive with the recovery usb drive
