Hi Everyone and a Happy New Year. Im hoping you can make mine a happy one as I am in a bind.
I have the above laptop which on receipt a few days ago I updates to Win 11 and then added some new software. All seemed fine till I switched back on and got the Blue Screen of Death and a message critical process died. Managed to get into F11 and decided not to mess about so reset to original clean boot Win 10/11 with no personal files left on the laptop or new software which caused the problem I suspect. It did its stuff and failed twice, so thought reload Win 10 from a DVD via external Drive. It got 88% of the way and failed so tried again with F11 still working . No luck as failed again so used a Win 11 disk and failed once more so now showing 4 versions of Win on system. Left it and tried again the second day, but now all I get is the Blue Screen showing same Critical process died looping and F11 doing nothing. F2,F9, F10 are all working and Bios updated to 15 but still cannot get into the laptop to do anything. No recovery disk for this model so I an tearing my hair out and seeking anyones help. I'm 77 and know a bit which i know can be dangerous, but all I want is a working Laptop. Anyone out there with ideas? Please keep it KISS. Many thanks.

Hi:
I looked up your model notebook's product number (31Y96EA#ABU) in the HP cloud recovery tool database, and according to the report, it indicates that your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.
You can use the tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...you will need to have access to another Windows PC running Windows 7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media.

Thank for this idea and will certainly try it. I suspect though that as the blue screen is in a loop, the F11 key won't let me get into reset nor will connecting an external dvd RW with a valid win 10 disc boot either, I'm not sure the USB cloud method will work if machine won't even look at DVD. I have done the HP tests via F2, F10 and all tests show OK. Normally I would cheat & take out SSD and wipe and replace OS, but looking under the hood it's a pig to get at. Thanks so far and will go download the disc from HP. Cheers.

You're very welcome.
In order to boot from an external device, you need to turn on or restart the PC.
Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu and from that, select the device you want to boot from and press the enter key.
You may not have any external devices to boot from if secure boot is enabled, so if that is the case, restart the PC, immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the f10 Setup option, go into the setup menu and disable secure boot.
Then you should be able to boot from an external EFI boot source.

Hi once again.
I can't thank you enough for your help and patience.
I tried to download the cloud recovery software, but it refused me on my HP Desktop saying something about it being unsecure?
I do have the problem of not getting the laptop to change boot order and pick up on the External DVD RW. I have 2 so tried the other just in case, but no joy. This was however before your last msg so will try this to see if that works. As mentioned ,when this has happened before it was easy to remove the SSD and wipe the SSD replace the OS and replace, but having opened this laptop, getting to the SSD involves removing the battery which was easy, but then the WLAN and several other components to get anywhere near the SSD. Did remove the battery to see if this would help, but to no avail.
Will keep trying as long as you are prepared to help.
Hope you and your Family have a safe and Happy New Year.

You're very welcome.
Sorry that you are having such a tough time with getting a recovery drive created.
I have zipped up and attached the cloud recovery tool file below.
At least that will remove one of the roadblocks.
I wish you and your family a Happy New Year as well!
Cheers,
Paul

Hi, Just wanted to say a big thank you for helping and although I had to resort to eventually wiping the SSD using Hirens 2021 disk I now have it working. As you will see now although windows is back on, its not the original version HP put on and now I cant find how I get the original back on as a self verification machine so no software or License number to enable me to get back to original situation.
Hope you and your family are well and enjoyed the celebrations. Keep safe and thanks again.
