Hi! I am experiencing some problems with my laptop after two hard shutdown.

Previously it sometimes stuck when I was watching videos in full screen. Then I had to do hard shutdown. It ran quite slowly when I restarted it for the first time. And it went back to normal when I restarted it once more.

Yesterday this problem happened again. When I did hard shutdown and restarted it for the first time, it seems to stuck on the login screen. So I did hard shutdown again. After that, I can't open my laptop!

At first, it is in an endless loop of "preparing automatic repair -- startup screen". I browsed the forum and found some similar issues.

According to the provided solution, I first tried to use the recovery (press F11 when opening my laptop. But it stuck on "please wait" screen.

Then I tried another solution. I did power reset first and then recovered the BIOS using a key press combination (Windows+B). After it finished the process on the HP BIOS Update screen, it restarted.

Then it went to another endless loop of "preparing automatic repair -- blue screen error(Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Stop code: DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG).

I googled solution for this stop code. Some suggests that there may be problems in SATA configuration in BIOS. But I cannot find either Storage Configuration or SATA Configuration in BIOS.

Then I decided to reinstall system using USB Drive.

First, In BIOS, I disabled secure boot and enabled legacy boot . I also moved "USB hard disk" before "OS boot manager".

Then when my laptop restarted, I pressed F9 to open Boot Device options. I could see two options related with my usd drive, "USB hard drive" and "USB hard drive(UEFI)".

First I tried the one with UEFI. But it stuck on startup screen.

So I tried the other one. This time I enter the installation screen. But when asked where to install windows, I get the error "We couldn’t find any drives, To get a storage driver, click Load driver".

Here is some additional information, which I think might be helpful.

I have run the Extensive System Tests on my laptop. It DID pass all items, except "Hard drive optimized DST check", which shows "Not available".

When I open my laptop after I enabled legacy boot, it shows

I am really worried about my laptop. I am quite grateful if anybody can help me solve this problem. Thank you very much!!!

@Amyning

IF your laptop came with Win10 preloaded, it almost certainly came with that installed in UEFI mode -- which is HOW you need to do any reinstall.

If your Win10 media does not support UEFI mode, then you need to create media that does.

You can download an ISO file of Win10 from Microsoft and use RUFUS (a free utility) to create boot media that supports UEFI mode.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I will try it soon.

Before that, I also want to ask that if there are any methods that allow me to fix my laptop without reinstalling the system?

Hard shutdowns will corrupt the filesystem, and the error messages you're getting also indicate the filesystem is corrupted.

IF you can boot into Windows, you can try doing a Repair-Install. This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact.

To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit). Make sure you select the same version as needed for your PC. If you do not, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!

Once you have that media, follow the instructions in the link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

Thank you for the quick reply!

If I want to try doing Repair-Install, I also need to create boot media that does support UEFI mode, as you mentioned before, right?

And if the Repair-Install fails, then I have no choice but to reinstall the system, right?

Since I can't boot into Windows, I try to reinstall the system.

I use RUFUS to create boot media that supports UEFI mode. I disable Secure Boot and Legacy Boot in BIOS. Then I press F9 and choose to boot from USB.

But it still stuck at the startup screen. In a few minutes, the same blue screen shows ("Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. Stop code: DRIVER PNP WATCHDOG"). Then it restarts.

Any ideas about how to solve the problem? Thank you so much!

Sorry, that SHOULD be working -- don't know what more to tell you.
