Brand new computer out of the box.

Up and running fine, going thru Windows updates, yada... all good as far as it can be, knowing that both Microsoft and HP compete to update things automatically, whether I like it or not. 🙂

Then, on it's own, the computer on it's own went into a BIOS update. Again, all going well so I thought.

Screen message suddenly appears and says BIOS updates required and computer would restart.

Ok, sound good... Not so much...

Waited roughly 30 minutes, after it appeared to shut down, but it never restarted.

Tried powering on, nothing

Tried force power off, then back on, nothing...

Tried external screen, nothing..

Tried 15 second power button with no A/C adapter reset, nothing...

Tried hitting "Esc" key on power up to force BIOS menu, nothing...

I have exhausted all the "Tricks" I am aware of, to which the last suggest is contact HP for Support.

Any thoughts/Ideas out there???

Hi @dlaprad,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern and don’t worry I’ll take care of this for you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What exact model of HP computer are you using?
  • When you press the power button, do you see any lights or hear fans spinning, or is it completely unresponsive?
  • Was the BIOS update initiated through HP Support Assistant, Windows Update, or directly from the BIOS menu?

Here are a few advanced troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Perform a hardware reset – Disconnect the AC adapter, and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds. Then reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering on.
  2. Try a BIOS recovery key combination – On many HP systems, pressing Windows key + B (or V) while holding the power button for 2–3 seconds can trigger a BIOS recovery screen.
  3. Check for signs of power – If the power LED blinks or you hear fans briefly, note the pattern. HP devices sometimes use blink codes to indicate hardware or BIOS issues.
  4. External monitor test – Even though you tried one already, make sure the connection is secure and the monitor is set to the correct input, just to rule out display issues.
  5. Remove peripherals – Disconnect all USB devices, external drives, and accessories before attempting to power on.

I hope this helps.
