My hp-15dy1023dx suddenly went to a blue screen with message "locking" then powered down. I cannot power up the laptop. The usual methods (unplug, hold power key, plug in, power up) do not work. Battery is not removable. The OS is some type of Windows 10.

Hi @dave_12_33
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP 15-dy1023dx laptop is facing a critical issue that prevents it from powering up. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to try and resolve the issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
Since the laptop is not powering up, you should try a hard reset to see if it can clear any temporary issues.
- Step 1: Disconnect the laptop from any power source (unplug the charger).
- Step 2: Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. This will drain any residual power in the system.
- Step 3: Release the power button and plug the charger back in.
- Step 4: Press the power button again to try turning it on.
If the hard reset is successful, the laptop should power up normally.
2. Check for Charging Issues
It’s possible that the battery may not be charging properly, and the laptop is unable to turn on due to insufficient power.
- Step 1: Make sure the charger is plugged into a working power outlet.
- Step 2: Ensure the charging cable and adapter are not damaged.
- Step 3: Try using a different charging cable or adapter (if you have access to one) to see if that resolves the issue.
If you notice the charging light is not coming on when you plug in the charger, it could be a sign of a charging port or adapter issue.
3. Try Powering On Without Battery (if possible)
If your laptop has a removable battery (and you can access it), try the following:
- Step 1: Remove the battery from the laptop (if possible).
- Step 2: Plug the laptop directly into the power source (without the battery).
- Step 3: Press the power button to see if it powers on.
If your laptop has a non-removable battery, skip this step.
4. Check for Hardware Failures
If the laptop was recently exposed to physical trauma, liquid, or overheating, there may be a hardware issue.
5. Reset BIOS (If You Can Access It)
Sometimes, BIOS-related issues can prevent the laptop from powering on. If you can get the laptop to show any signs of life (e.g., fans spinning or lights flashing), try resetting the BIOS:
- Step 1: Turn off the laptop.
- Step 2: Press and hold the Esc key, and then press the Power button to turn the laptop on.
- Step 3: If successful, you should see the Startup Menu. From here, press F10 to access BIOS settings.
- Step 4: Inside BIOS, look for an option to Reset BIOS to Default Settings.
- Step 5: Save the settings and exit BIOS, then try powering the laptop on again
I hope this helps.
