Hp notebook 15 ay513tx
FreeDOS
My laptop came with freedos 2.0 and I want to install windows 7 on it. I tried using bootable USB but it says some device drivers are missing ( i researched and found it was because usb 3.0 isnt compatible yet). I looked for solutions and they include changing usb 3.0 to usb 2.0 in the bios settings. I can't seem to get to that in the bios settings. How do I change the usb 3.0 to usb 2.0 or auto?
Or is there a way i can copy usb 3.0 drivers from a usb to the hard drive and then access them during the setup. What are the freedos equivalents of the "diskpart" command that lists which disk has what files and other operations. Please help

Hey there! @shivameo2, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you would like to know how to disable USB 3.0 to and enable 2.0 in BIOS on your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Have you tried checking with a different USB flash drive?

I have checked the records you can disable the USB 3.0 port in BIOS.

Try the steps recommended below.

Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.

Go to system configuration tab select  USB 3.0 configuration in pre-os and select disable.

Press F10 to save changes and exit.

Also, try checking with a different USB port if the issue persists.

Hope this answers your query!

Take Care! 🙂

No hardware/software changes were made.
Here's what al I have tried :
1- I plugged out the USB and checked with all the 3 USB ports but it didn't work.
2- Used another USB flash drive. Didn't work.
3- In this model the BIOS settings don't have an option for changing usb 3.0 to 2.0 so that's another dead end.

I tried obtaining the drivers and placed them on a drive using a live ubuntu disk and then tried the windows installation by browsing to that location when the missing drivers message popped up. It didn't work either. Probably I don't know which drivers are missing exactly. I tried this one:

Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver

What do I do now. Support is appreciated. Thanks

Hi @shivameo2,

Thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that the issue still persists after following the steps provided in the previous interaction.

It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Please note that we do not support Linux. For Windows drivers, you may use the Recovery Partition.

If the recovery partition is removed, then you may download the drivers from www.hp.com/drivers

You have a good day ahead.

I'm not using linux as OS. I just used it to put drivers on the hard drive so that I could use them during windows installation. It didn't work.
How to make it work with recovery partition? The pre installed OS is freedos 1.2.
Also,
What drivers do I need for making usb 3.0 compatible with windows 7. The laptop model is 15 Ay 513tx with i3- 6006.
