I have a HP laptop that shows the charging light but wont turn on. When I remove the battery and hold down on the power button for 15 seconds and add back the battery it turns on, but when I force shut it down the problem returns. Can someone help me please?

Hi @Alexandria_, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop has a power-related issue, possibly linked to the battery, motherboard, or BIOS settings. Here are a few steps you can try:
Check the Battery & Power Adapter
- Try turning on the laptop without the battery, using only the charger.
- If it turns on, the battery might be faulty or not holding a proper charge.
- If possible, test with a different compatible charger.
Update the BIOS
- If you can get the laptop to turn on using the power button trick, update the BIOS from HP official support site.
- An outdated BIOS can sometimes cause power issues.
Check for a Faulty CMOS Battery
- If the CMOS battery (a small coin-cell battery on the motherboard) is failing, it can prevent the laptop from starting normally.
- Consider replacing the CMOS battery if your laptop is older.
Perform a Hard Reset (Again)
- Remove the battery and charger.
- Hold the power button for 60 seconds.
- Plug in the charger only and try turning it on.
- If it works, reinsert the battery and test again.
Check Power Button & Motherboard
- The power button itself could be faulty, not registering a proper press.
- If the issue persists, there might be a motherboard or power circuit issue, you may have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center for further assistance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
