HP Notebook - 15-af131dx (ENERGY STAR)
Serial number: [removed per Rules Of Participation] Product number: P1A95UA I turned on my computer and instead of the usual boot up it says "please wait" then goes to a blue screen that says choose your keyboard layout so I chose US and it comes to a screen that says troubleshoot pc or turn pc off. I ran the tests and they all passed so now Im not sure what to do because it keeps going back to the same screen no matter what I do. I have no idea how or why it is doing this because I have not installed anything and it was working perfectly yesterday. Please help.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
While you respond to that, I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and check whether the issue is resolved.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04718479
NOTE: Follow the steps under “Computer opens to a blue "Choose an option" screen”
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

The computer was working perfect on 8-15-2018 and the next morning it wouldn't even boot correctly. I did not install anything at all onto the computer and nobody except for me uses or had access to it so I am really confused as to what caused this problem. I still have not been able to get the laptop to get past the blue choose your keyboard layout screen. It does not show an option for resetting the pc .

I read the response. Great effort and tremendous application have been shown. They are amply appreciated.
As @The_Fossette is out for the day, I am responding on his behalf.
Try a system restore to an earlier time before this occurred by following steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545 (HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 8)
- perform instructions from this section "Restore your computer when Windows cannot start normally"
- Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it does not then perform a Microsoft push-button reset to factory settings by following directions from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04742289
- There is an associated YouTube video on how to do it.
- If you chose the option "keep my files" data is not lost. However, you may need to reinstall all the apps that you installed recently.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Yes! that could be one of the reason.
Follow the below steps to boot into BIOS page and change the Boot order.
1. Turn on or restart the computer.
2. While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
3. Select system configuration.
4. Select Boot option.
5. Then select Boot order.
6. Under boot order use F5 or F6 to change the value and select Hard drive as the first Boot device.
Restart the laptop.
Keep me posted, hope this helps you!

I did what you said and unfortunately it did not work. Is it possible to erase toshiba from the windows boot manager? Im not sure how or why it is there but maybe if there is a way to change it or erase that, it maybe solve this issue. If there isva way to do so please let me know so I hopefully will be able to use my computer again. Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the reply,
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
-
Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
-
Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
-
On the main menu, click Component Tests.
Figure : Selecting Component Tests from the main menu
-
The Component Tests menu displays.
Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
Figure : Sample list of Component Tests
Hard Drive/Storage Tests - There are six hard drive tests, and they can take from 10 minutes to 2 hours or more to complete.
To run the hard drive tests, follow the steps in Hard Drive Tests.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
