HP 255 15.6 inch G9 Notebook PC (50J79AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My question is:

How can I send a laptop back to HP to be repaired/replaced? And why is it that when I follow the instructions to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, my screen is in a black menu with white text and none of the options listed on the instructions page?

Context:

I have owned a HP 250 15.6 inch G9 Notebook PC for a little over a year now.

Yesterday I had booted it up without problems (except the time in the bottom right had frozen). Then a few hours later when the whole screen froze, the PC rebooted and crashed with an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME message.

After a few hours of constant freezing, then rebooting, then crashing. I decided to check the BIOS, I was unable to complete the storage related tests but a few other tests worked fine.

Today I tried using a USB memory stick (with Windows 11) to repair the OS, I inputed my BitLocker key, recovery failed. Then I tried to wipe the disks and install Windows, which is when Command Prompt gave mixed messages about whether or not there was any drives installed (except the USB stick).

The IT guy with me said that my laptop had suffered a “complete drive failure” and that most likely my SSDs had failed.

With this, I went to the HP troubleshooting site and it said I was out of office hours. So I’m here instead.

Thank You,

Mr. Will Welljokes

I wish we could help you on this but we here are unable to assist you in this issue.

We are just a Community Support forum staffed by part-time volunteers not affiliated with HP.

We have no access to HP Repair Services and can not help you with issues related to those. These include Repairs, Service Centers and Technician Visits

Nor are we able to contact customers via chat, email, text, or telephone.

If this device is still under warranty, for direct contact with HP, your best bet is to contact HP Customer Service to see what they will do for you:

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/customerservice

If the warranty has expired, HP does not work on out-of-warranty equipment so you will need to seek out a local computer repair facility -- but be warned: repairs are usually VERY expensive as you not only have to pay retail prices for the parts, you also have to pay for labor to do the replacements and diagnostics. In many cases. the total cost will exceed that of replacing the computer.

Since we have no index or catalog of repair facilities, you have to look for one on your own.

Thank you for your response.
In fact that link is to exactly the webpage I was looking for (I just hadn’t a clue how to find it).

I should’ve made it more clear as to what I was asking for instead of waffling, guess I’m just new to these forums.
