My HP Laptop just freezes sometimes while working in midway. Keyboard and mouse becomes irresposive. Even CtrlAlt+Del does not get accepted. I have run HP Support Assistant. Keyboard and Mouse test passed. I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reboot. Please assist.

@BNYadav, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop freezes unexpectedly. You've already taken some good initial steps by running HP Support Assistant and reinstalling drivers. Let's go a bit deeper to identify and resolve the issue.

Check for System Resource Overload

Sometimes, background processes or high CPU/RAM usage can cause the system to freeze.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager (if possible before the freeze).
  • Look for any apps or processes consuming excessive CPU, memory, or disk.
  • Disable unnecessary startup programs:
    Settings > Apps > Startup

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (Offline)

Even though the keyboard and mouse passed, it's good to run a full system test.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test (takes 2+ hours).

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can cause freezing.

Check for Windows Corruption

Run system file checks to repair any corrupted Windows components.

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

sfc /scannow

  • Then run:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can sometimes cause freezing during wake or boot.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save changes and reboot.

Check Event Viewer for Errors

This can help pinpoint the cause.

  • Press Win + X > Event Viewer
  • Look under Windows Logs > System for any critical errors around the time of the freeze.

Test in Clean Boot Mode

This helps identify if a third-party app is causing the issue.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
