Configure Numlock to turn on by default when starting laptop

Hello

I am having trouble finding a setting that allows the num lock function to be switched on by default. I can manually toggle it to ON, but after a reboot, it is back to OFF.

I have trawled the BIOS but cannot find a numlock setting.

Has anyone successfully configured this setting, please? I am probably missing something really obvious.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

Change the action key setting from the BIOS Setup Utility.

1. Press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press the f10 key repeatedly to open the BIOS Setup Utility.

3. Press the right or left arrow key to select the System Configuration menu.

4. Press the up or down arrow key to select Action Keys Mode.

5. Press the Enter key to display the Enabled / Disabled options.

   

6. Press the up or down arrow key to select one of the options.

   • Enabled: Does not require pressing fn to use the actions printed on the function keys.

     For example, pressing f8 lowers the sound as printed on the key. Alternately, pressing both the fn + f8 minimizes and maximizes a web browser.

   • Disabled: Requires pressing fn to use the actions printed on the function keys.

     For example, pressing f1 opens a help window. Alternately, pressing both the fn + f1 keys puts the computer to sleep as printed on the key.

7. Press the f10 key to save the selection and restart the computer.

Even you try disabling Number Lock with the On-Screen Keyboard:

1. Click Start, type on-screen in the search field, then select On-Screen Keyboard from the search results list.

2. When the On-Screen Keyboard displays, click Options.

3. In the Options window, select Turn on numeric keypad , then click the OK button to save the change.

4. The On-Screen Keyboard now displays a numeric keypad. Click NumLock to enable the numeric keypad.

Thank you for responding to my query.

This appears to have resolved itself. I am setting up several of these for staff and have discovered that turning on Num Lock at the sign-in screen each time the machine is restarted results in the device remembering the preference. When I begin I just have to remember to turn it on before entering the password. By the time I have finished (which involves several restarts) it is on by default (for that account).

p.s. fwiw, Num Lock has a dedicated key, not a function key on this model.
