NONE of BOARDS above fit my question as is NOT locking up.
Ever since I downloaded HP updates a couple days ago, I have to perform a double log-in every time I boot up. Your "trouble-shooting" site says to back up all info and reset computer. NOT EVEN GONNA HAPPEN,folks! Have the next YEAR'S worth of Children's Church lesson plans and crafts, as well as this years Vacation Bible School's 40 million crafts, Bible Study's "homework"- 10 pages long, plus college work, a term paper, hundreds of pictures and documents, some music, etc.
How else can I straighten out this mess? As stated, NEVER happened UNTIL I downloaded HP updates, and then it started requiring double log-in immediately afterward.
#1. Help please, other than that F11 nonsense and resetting entire computer. Have had computer for a while, and wIll mess with double log-in forever, before resetting to factory specs!
#2. WHAT DID HP DO TO MY COMPUTER? What is in their downloads, to affect it like this???
Thank you!

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉
I appreciate your time and efforts,
I understand your concern and apart from the double log-in, everything else is working fine? is that right?
(I will try to be as simple as possible, to make this simple for you, I suggest you to go one step at a time, so go slow and you will be fine)
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
This turns out to be a new Microsoft bug which occurs on Windows 10 Creators Update specifically after restarting or shutting down a machine. Please keep in mind that you or your clients may experience this issue following the update.
Here’s a quick fix that will help you avoid the double login request described above:
- Click the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
- In the Privacy section, turn off Use my sign in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart.
Although the solution mentioned above works in different cases, you can also use this trick to get it done. Open the User Accounts settings. To do so, press Win + R, type netplwiz and hit the Enter button. You will find an option called Users must enter a username and password to use this computer. By default, this option is enabled. You need to remove the mark from the checkbox.
Now, you need to enter the username and password and restart your computer. After restarting your PC, open the same dialog box and re-enable that same functionality.
In simple words, you have enabled auto login and disabled it again.
Let me know how that pans out

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,
Riddle_Decipher is at your service.
As I understand there's an issue with double log-in required since downloading HP Updates,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Could you add a screenshot of these double log-in screens so that we can understand what you are referring to?
Also, do you have the HP Simple pass installed, is that causing this issue?
Did you attempt a system restore?
Please reply with the details for further assistance.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,
give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

1A. "Take a screenshot of these double log-in screens"- HAVEN"T a clue how to do that! IF you're talking about my taking a picture with a "smart phone", I have a "stupid phone" not a smart one. I have a very basic TRAC phone with NO camera. I'm not smart enough to operate a smart phone, they don't come with a manual any more, and my kids are all grown and moved away- no kids to teach me!
1B. WHAT IS HAPPENING: When I boot up-turn on my laptop a screen always comes up asking me for password. I type it in. The screen goes blue-gray with dots going around in a circle (It's thinking)and then the same regular screen pops up a second time with a rectangle, asking again for my password-the same one I put in earlier!
Have the HP Simple pass installed? Causing this issue? Do not think I have it installed, but don't know for certain what I have or don't have installed. Tried to find it in "downloads", but nothing there with that name.
Did you attempt a system restore? NO!!! I read about that on the trouble shooting page! Too much stuff on laptop, and I have NOTHING saved! NO rescue discs or whatever they use on this thing. I have Children's Church lessons and crafts for next few years, Vacation Bible School crafts for this summer and beyond, Bible Study "Homework", a history term paper, math & English home work, pictures, music, videos, and more. From what I read, a system restore is basically like resetting it back to factory specs. EVERYTHING GONE. They had to do that once already when the cyber terrorists got me! They said they were from Microsoft, to call immediately, that I'd been infected with a "porno virus". I called, asked the guy how they knew I had a virus, and told him that I never access ANY porno. He scanned through my computer! I told him to GET OUT of my computer, that he did not have my permission to do that and he'd best not have hurt anything. Yeah, pay $200 or your computer MAY lock up on you. I told him I was broke. He hung up. My screen went blank gray with a picture of a computer and a chain with padlock on it. ONLY way to fix it was to reset it back to factory standards. Now this happens! It was right after I downloaded items the HP Support Assistant said needed downloading. Thank you for your time and help in this matter. Fay Ann

THANK YOU! It worked! And I left the box unchecked as I'm the ONLY one who uses this computer. I live alone-widow, and rarely any visit, so I don't have to worry about anyone messing with my computer. I was so scared I'd have to erase everything as the forum told another person to do who'd purchased a new computer. Thank you again!
BTW I like how you have the "I'm an HP employee" identification! I called the "cyber-terrorists" 800 # twice-1st time they ID'd as Geek Squad, and got $20,my bank info-paid by debit card, they tried to steal from my checking acct. but bank caught it, stopped it, reversed charges, and reported them!
2nd time said they were MICROSOFT, locked up my computer- you at HP helped me reset it to factory specs, and 3rd time I NEVER CALLED- said that they were HP-HEWLIT_PACKARD! Your tech gave me couple sites to view on "scams" and how to report them. They have "tried" to scam me 3 or 4 more times since then- saying they are again MICROSOFT, but now I know THANKS TO YOU TECHS at HP!
THANK YOU ALL!

It worked great except for one little problem...
I forgot my password and it won't let me reset it, and I've tried my usua;l ones. Thank goodness I thought to enter a PIN, because that is THE ONLY way I can get onto my computer! Thought I had put it into the "Drafts" on my cellphone, but obviously not, unless it was on my old, now defunct, cellphone. Anyway, computer says password is incorrect, please re-enter, so I click on the PIN button, enter my ID and PIN number everytime I boot up, now, but it isn't doing the double log-in!
Thank you for your help.
