HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC 15-es2000 (4V391AV)

I cannot start laptop when AC adapter is unplugged. Battery shows 94% charge. BIOS and drivers all current. Once the laptop is plugged in, it starts normally. If I remove the AC adapter, the laptop will run normally on battery power. I have swapped a new HP battery. Having same problem. Please assist. Thx

Hi @Tom_B1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC has a battery-related issue despite having a new battery installed. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem.

Check Battery Calibration

  • Calibrate the Battery:
    1. Charge your laptop to 100%.
    2. Unplug the AC adapter and let the laptop run on battery until it shuts down due to low power.
    3. Plug it back in and charge it to 100% without interruption.
  • Recheck Battery Status: After calibration, check if the issue persists.

Battery Health Check

  • Check Battery Health: Use HP Support Assistant tool to check the health of your battery and ensure it is functioning correctly.

Perform a Power Reset

  • Power Reset Procedure:
    1. Shut down your laptop.
    2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
    3. Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    4. Reinstall the battery, connect the AC adapter, and power on your laptop.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Ensure that both the BIOS and drivers are up-to-date. Since you mentioned they are current, it’s good to double-check for any additional updates that might have been released recently.

Check Battery Connection

  • Internal Battery Connection: If comfortable, check the internal battery connection to ensure it is securely connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause power issues.

Check Power Settings

  • Power Settings Adjustments:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    2. Check the power plan settings and make sure they are configured correctly for battery usage.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Diagnostics Tool: Run the built-in HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues. You can access this by pressing Esc during startup and selecting F2 to run diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I must say that I am extremely disappointed in this laptop. With a $1000 purchase, I would expect that at month 13, just outside of warranty, it would continue to operate. I’ve read every post on this form on how to fix this battery issue. It simply hasn’t worked, including a brand new battery replacement. It looks like my only option left is to pay $100 for HP support to tell me that my laptop needs to be sent in for service. Then what? I need a new motherboard? This has been such a time waster and so disruptive to trying to get my work done. What an absolutely terrible experience. HP, I hope you’re listening. I would expect better. I am beyond frustrated.
