Hi forum,
I am new here, so pls be gentle when I might be doing something wrong.
Laptop: Elitebook 8440P, i5 proc, 8GB mem, f60 bios
As my laptop only has 54M/bit adapter installed I wanted to upgrade to more recent.
I got an Intel Centrino 6235AN.HMWWB wifi adapter and got a 104 error at boot, telling me to remove the card.
So... m y question is: as far as I know this adapter should work i n my laptop when i refer to : https://support.hp.com/soar-attachment/975/col35868-ob-108502-1-ob-108502-1_sp58782.html but is does not.
How can I make this work?
Thanks for any assistance, and I wish I could return a favor.

Hi:
Your model has what is known as a BIOS whitelist which prevents the notebook from booting up when an unsupported wifi card is installed.
Below is the link to service manual for your notebook.
http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02745864.pdf
The supported wifi cards with their HP part numbers can be found in chapter 3 starting on page 3-6.
You can only install one of the wifi cards listed in the service manual for your notebook, and it must have the HP part number on it or it will not work (as you discovered).
The first card listed won't work (3x3) because your notebook needs to have 3 antennas inside, and it probably only has two.
So your only other option would be to get the Intel a/g/n (2x2) for use in all countries and regions HP part number 572509-001 (INTEL CENTRINO ADVANCED-N 6200 WLAN adapter).
I would do a search on eBay by the part number and only get one where you actually see the HP part number shown in a photograph of the item for sale.

Hi Paul, thanks for the swift response.
Actually i was afraid for such answer, as I also could not find a solution with a seach in a bios modding forum. The laptop bios, appear as having a RSA level protection which shields agains modding... or get bricket.
I only hoped that the F60 bios would not have blacklisted my intel centrino 6235.
Think I will get myself an USB WLan..
Thanks again.

You're very welcome.
Or get the correct wifi adapter on eBay. They are cheap. Many sellers ship worldwide.
Just make sure you get one with an actual photograph of the item for sale with the part number on it.

Hi Paul.
You made my day !!!
I've instantly ordered one from our China friends. Such a bargain I could not resist.
Will it work? I will post the answer here once it has been delivered.
With kind regards,
