This EliteBook goes to sleep after an Hour, then will not wake back up, you have to go through a forced power down, to get it to start again, is this a common issue ?

@Harlan1973, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

The issue you're experiencing with your HP EliteBook 650 15.6-inch G10 Notebook PC not waking up from sleep mode can be problematic, and it might be related to power management settings or drivers. Here are some steps and considerations to address this:

Potential Causes and Solutions

  1. Power Management Settings:

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and check your current power plan settings. Ensure that sleep and hibernation settings are configured correctly.
    • Consider adjusting the settings to prevent the computer from going into sleep mode if it frequently doesn't wake up as expected.
  2. Driver Updates:

    • Ensure that all system drivers, especially those for the chipset and graphics, are up-to-date. Visit the HP Support website and enter your product details to find the latest drivers.
    • Additionally, updating the BIOS to the latest version can sometimes resolve power management issues.
  3. Windows Updates:

    • Make sure that your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates can include important fixes for sleep and wake issues.
  4. Check for Conflicting Software:

    • Some third-party software, especially those that manage hardware or power settings, may conflict with the system’s default power management. Uninstall any unnecessary software that might be causing issues.
  5. Hybrid Sleep:

    • Disable Hybrid Sleep via Device Manager > Power Options. Under your current plan, go to Change advanced power settings, then expand Sleep options, and set Allow hybrid sleep to off.
  6. Troubleshooting with Logs:

    • Use the Event Viewer to check for errors or warnings that occur around the time of sleep. This can sometimes provide clues if there is a particular driver or process causing the hang.
  7. Adjust Hardware Sleep States:

    • In some cases, adjusting the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power setting for LAN and other devices like USB ports can help, via Device Manager.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
