Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

When I shutdown my laptop or put it in sleep mode, when I got to boot it up, it does not power up. The power Led and keyboard back lights flash intermittently.

I have tried the usually troubleshooting tricks. Held the power button down for over a minute after I plugging AC. Held down the Windows key and "B" key and pressed power.

What seems to have worked in the past is to remove the battery and unplug the AC cord and leave it like that for a few hours. Then put the battery back in and AC cord and it boots up.

I did have to replace the HDD a year ago.

Are there any other tricks I can try. I know this laptop is old but it has been a good workhorse for me. And not Win 10 upgradeable. I know I need to purchase a new one but not in the budget today so if anyone has some ideas, please send them to me.

Thank you all in advance.

Paul

I have gone through your Post and I understand your concerns

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Also follow the instructions in this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03383935

Keep me posted how it goes

Thanks for the reply.

I cannot power up the laptop now. But, before I started having this issue, I did run HP Assistant and all Windows 7 updates done.

Is there a keyboard combination I can try to do a reset to see if that can at least get the laptop to power up?

I have reseated the hard drive and replaced the CMOS battery but to no avail.

Thanks.

Paul
