Hi @Bhilley11,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0xc0000098 indicates an issue with the Windows Boot Manager on your HP Notebook. This error can occur for various reasons, including corrupted system files, missing or damaged boot configuration data, or problems with the hard drive. Here are steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Use Windows Automatic Repair:

  • Insert a Windows installation USB or DVD.
  • Boot from the installation media.
  • Select your language preferences and click "Next."
  • Click on "Repair your computer" at the bottom left.
  • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair."

Check and Repair File System:

  • Boot from the Windows installation media.
  • Select your language preferences and click "Next."
  • Click on "Repair your computer" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options."
  • Open the Command Prompt.
  • Type the following command and press Enter:chkdsk /f /r C:

  • Allow the tool to check and repair the file system.

Rebuild the Boot Configuration Data (BCD):

  • Boot from the Windows installation media.
  • Access the Command Prompt as mentioned above.
  • Type the following commands one by one and press Enter after each: bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

  • Restart your computer after executing these commands.

Restore from a System Restore Point:

  • Boot from the Windows installation media.
  • Access the Command Prompt.
  • Type the following command and press Enter: rstrui.exe
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous state.

Perform a System Reset or Reinstall Windows:

  • If none of the above solutions work, you may need to consider performing a system reset or reinstalling Windows. Make sure to back up your important data before doing this, as it will erase all files on your system drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
