HP Pavillion Notebook
Hi! Just got a blue screen with the above error code and now my laptop will not boot up. (Windows 10 updated a day or so ago & am not convinced the two aren't related!) I don't have an installation disk etc as it was all pre-loaded when I bought the laptop and I don't have ready access to another PC/laptop (I'm currently on my Smartphone) I'm no computer expert and would appreciate 'an idiot's guide' Can anyone help? Thank you in anticipation!

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Pavillion series laptop and it came preinstalled with Win10. There were a few Windows updates and now the laptop does not boot up. There was a blue screen with error code 0xc000014c. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Does the blue screen of death still appear when you power on the laptop?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

Please perform a Windows refresh (repair) on the operating system. This will not delete your data. The WIndows refresh will fix any corruption in the operating system and drivers.

NOTE: The steps provided are for Win8 and should work for Win10 too.

If the issue persists post the Windows refresh or if the system refresh does not launch then let us run the hardware tests. The following steps will help:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

  • On the main menu, click Component Tests.

  • The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.

  • Please initiate a test one by one on the hard drive. memory, CPU and the system board.

Let me know the results. If any of the hardware tests fail then please contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the laptop.

Secondly, you may refer to the information from this HP document. This information helps in fixing various blue screen errors.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for your reply! Have tried all your suggestions and unfortunately had no luck. There doesn't appear to be a hardware problem. The 'Tech' guy from my work has offered to 'have a go' at sorting it out for me. Thanks again! Turquoiseted
