Hi @wafulabrian,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can help you with setting up the biometric features on HP laptops. Here are some general troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve issues with fingerprint and facial recognition on your HP laptop:

Troubleshooting Steps for Biometric Setup

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure that the biometric drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the HP Customer Support website and using the HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates.

Check Windows Updates:

  • Make sure that your Windows operating system is fully updated. Biometric features often depend on the latest Windows updates to function correctly.

Verify Biometric Device Status:

  • Go to Device Manager and check if the fingerprint sensor or facial recognition hardware is recognized. Look for biometric devices and ensure there are no warning signs (e.g., exclamation marks) next to them.

Reinstall Biometric Drivers:

  • If there are issues with the drivers, try uninstalling and then reinstalling them. In the Device Manager, right-click on the biometric device, select "Uninstall device," and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers.

Run Troubleshooter:

  • Use the Windows Troubleshooter for hardware and devices by going to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then selecting "Additional troubleshooters."

Check Security Settings:

  • Ensure that biometric authentication is enabled in your Windows Settings under Accounts > Sign-in options. You must set up a PIN first to use Windows Hello features.

Ensure Sensor Cleanliness:

  • Make sure the fingerprint sensor is clean and free of any dirt or smudges that might prevent it from accurately reading your fingerprint.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
