Hi Guys,

Does anyone know what having he laptop power on showing the power LED, F5 and F12 keys all solid means?  I assume the display died.  I haven't located the CMOS battery to reset that, but flushing the capacitors and removing the battery didn't do the trick.  Also removing the SSD didn't change the laptop's behavior any, so the problem shouldn't be storage related.

Thanks in Advance,

Christian

Hi @seier

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

Connect the Notebook to an external monitor to test the display. If it works on an external display, this could be a hardware issue with the display.

Try a hard reset :

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.
3) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.
4) Plug-in the Adapter.
5) Try to turn on the computer.

were there any updates installed on the PC?

Use these steps even if you cannot see anything on the monitor:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Connect the notebook to a power source using the power adapter.

  3. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time while the computer is off.
  4. While still pressing both keys, hold down the Power button for one second, and then release the Power button and the keys.

The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds. Afterward, an HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar,

I appreciate your help, I tried HDMI out to an external monitor that didn't work either.  I tried both of your reset methods, but to no avail.  Would you please send me instructions to clear CMOS and or remove the CMOS battery?  Is your second set of instructions to clear CMOS, because it didn't fail in the middle of a BIOS update (so far as I know).

Thanks,

Christian

The CMOS battery is not a customer accessible part in this model PC. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
