I ran a quick test on the hard disk drive of my notebook/laptop and it said it failed the short DST check with the failure code mentioned in the title of this post. Does anyone know what this code means and how I can resolve the issue with my hard drive?

Enter the required information at the link below and it should provide a report of the problem and the most likely way to fix it.

Normally a hard drive failure code means you need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
The problem is I don't know where you can download Windows 8.1 anymore since Microsoft stopped providing the W8.1 download link.

You should be able to because HP has driver support for W10 on your notebook's support page.

The downside is you will have to pay for a W10 license and product key because Microsoft closed the loophole last year that continued to allow users to continue to get the free upgrade to W10 after the official upgrade period expired in 2016.
If you plan on replacing the drive, I recommend you replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" SATA solid state drive (SSD).
