I'm really at a loss here, and could use some help.

I woke up my laptop and successfully logged into it.  From the windows start button, I initiated a reboot.  The laptop restarted, but failed to boot back up.  It stayed on the black HP splash screen, with the little circle spinning underneath it, for about 10 minutes.  I forced a hard reset with the power button, and tried to boot it again.  Same result.

I powered it off and on again, and interrupted the boot process with the escape key, and ran the full hardware checks multiple times.  Everything passed.

My wife has the same model laptop, so I used hers to create a Windows Recovery USB drive, and tried to boot my laptop to that, but it's either not trying to boot to the recovery drive or it's failing to do so and then reverting to booting to the the HDD, where it fails as above.

I'm unable to get it to boot successfully to any environment to do any further troubleshooting, and I've got no idea where to go from here.
