Hi @Ryanfarm,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message you're seeing, "CHOS Reset (502)," is likely referring to the "CMOS" or BIOS settings in your HP laptop. This message typically appears after the laptop's battery is replaced or has been disconnected for a long period. The CMOS stores BIOS settings and system time, and it may reset when power is lost.
Here's how to resolve the issue.
Restart the Laptop:
- Press Enter or the indicated key to restart the system as prompted by the error message.
Check BIOS Settings:
- During the reboot, press F10 (or the key specified for your model) to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup.
- Check the date and time settings, and adjust them if necessary.
- Review any other settings (boot order, security settings) and confirm they are correct for your system.
- Save any changes and exit the BIOS.
Battery Issue:
- If the error persists after restarting, it could indicate that the CMOS battery (a small battery on the motherboard) might need to be replaced. This battery maintains BIOS settings when the laptop is powered off.
- If you're comfortable doing so, open the laptop and replace the CMOS battery, or take it to a technician.
Reset BIOS to Defaults:
- If the problem persists, you can reset the BIOS to factory default settings from within the BIOS menu. This option is usually found under Exit or Restore Defaults.
Test the Laptop:
- After following these steps, reboot the laptop and see if the issue is resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
