My laptop will suddenly flash gray screen while I'm using it. The screen will completely turn gray and my cursor will disappear too. I have been addressing this problem by pressing the power button to power it off then turn it back on afterwards. The gray screen disappears after I turn it back on but how can I stop this from occurring permanently? Since it occurs again every once in a while.
Model: HP Victus 15
Windows: Windows 11
This is how the screen looked like.

Hi @klane_,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing a gray screen on your laptop can be frustrating, but there are several potential causes and solutions you can try to resolve the issue.
- Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can often cause display issues. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this by visiting the HP website and downloading the latest drivers for your specific model.
- Check for Overheating: Overheating can lead to various problems, including display issues. Ensure that your laptop's vents are clear and unobstructed to allow for proper airflow. Consider using a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat more effectively.
- Run Hardware Diagnostics: HP laptops typically come with built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware issues. You can access these tools by restarting your laptop and pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc, F2, or F10). Run a comprehensive hardware test to check for any potential issues with your laptop's components.
- Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, conflicts between software programs can lead to display issues. Try closing unnecessary programs and processes running in the background to see if the problem persists.
- Reset or Reinstall Windows: If none of the above solutions work, consider resetting or reinstalling Windows on your laptop. This can help eliminate any software-related issues that may be causing the gray screen problem.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the gray screen issue on your HP Victus 15 gaming laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
