HP Notebook - 15-bs011nw

Hi,

I recently updated my HP laptop to the latest BIOS firmware, version F.75 Rev.A. The update process completed successfully, but after the restart, the screen remained black.

Since then, the laptop no longer boots, and I'm unable to recover the BIOS using the standard Win + B method or any of the recovery options provided in HP’s documentation.

I eventually brought the laptop to a service center where they attempted to flash both the latest BIOS version (F.75) and several previous ones. Unfortunately, none of these versions resolved the black screen issue.

Interestingly, they were only able to get the system working again by flashing a much older BIOS version from 2017. While the laptop now boots, it’s not running optimally, and several issues persist due to the outdated firmware.

After some research, I found multiple reports online from other users experiencing similar issues with the HP 15 series laptops being bricked after BIOS updates, particularly involving invalid or faulty BIOS files.

Is HP aware of this issue with BIOS version F.75 Rev.A causing black screens or bricking systems?

Any help or official clarification would be appreciated.

Thank you.

@Lukasz17, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. If you've already attempted some of these steps, I will guide you through potential alternatives:

Reset the CMOS

Sometimes, resetting the CMOS (Real-Time Clock) can help resolve BIOS corruption issues. Here’s how you can try it:

Turn off the laptop and disconnect all external devices.

Remove the battery (if possible) and unplug the power adapter.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining power.

Reinsert the battery and power it on to see if the system boots up.

Re-flash the BIOS (Using USB Recovery Method)

Since the standard recovery method (Win + B) didn’t work for you, let's try a different USB recovery method. This is typically helpful if your BIOS is corrupted or the system cannot find the BIOS file during boot.

Try Booting Into BIOS Setup

Even though you're experiencing a black screen, try pressing the F10 key (or ESC then F10) repeatedly right after turning on the laptop to access the BIOS setup menu. If you can access the BIOS, you can try to reset the settings to default or reinstall a different BIOS version.

HP System Diagnostics

Turn off the laptop.

Turn it on and immediately press the ESC key repeatedly until the startup menu appears.

From the menu, select F2 to run the diagnostics. This can help identify hardware issues that may be preventing the system from booting up.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

These steps did not resolve the issue. As mentioned in my original post, I had already tried all the suggested solutions without success.

Ultimately, I had to reflash the BIOS using a hardware programmer. I was only able to restore functionality by using an older BIOS version, as the latest updates are bricking the laptop.

Is HP aware of this issue, and who is taking responsibility for these BIOS updates that are rendering older laptops unusable?
