OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xd0000 (758R0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Ok, so i did a BIOS update recently, From version f.29 rev a, to the new version f.30 rev a.

now this bios has an issue, where if i want to enter BIOS, i must ALWAYS unplug every usb device, INCLUDING my mouse AND keyboard. I checked if it was a port issue but i just cannot have any usb devices plugged in.
List of things i tried:

1) Bios recovery, I tried and it a complete reset of BIOS and flashed the same version again. Did not help at all.
2) Tried to rollback, but HP being HP locked downgrades. for BIOS. I cant manually flash it either.

I've literally no clue what I'm supposed to do. Best part is, if i want to switch from Hybrid mode to discrete mode, I cant do it via Omen gaming hub CUS IT DOESNT WORK. THE SWITCHER IN OMEN GAMING HUB DOES NOT WORK.

And now I have to remove every single peripheral every time. to go into the bloody startup menu.
Thank you HP for being such a PAIN IN THE ASS. 😊

laptop model is HP XD0015AX .

Anybody got any fixes? (AND DON'T TELL ME TO RESET BIOS OR RECOVER BIOS OR CLEAR CMOS, ALREADY DONE ALL THAT.)

I suspect your laptop is booting and TPM (trusted platform  module) does not recognized or approve the devices connected.

Go into the bios setup and make a change with the TPM.  I do not have an omen system like yours and the BIOS simulator is on the wayback machine so I am guessing.

You need to get the TPM to save its state where it "approves" the USB ports.  Possibly you will have to ask for support.

I asked OpenAI about this and was told quote

On many HP Omen laptops, the BIOS/UEFI can refuse to open if certain USB devices are connected. This is a known behavior with some gaming keyboards, USB hubs, external drives, and occasionally docking stations.

Here are the most common fixes and why it happens:

What’s Causing It

Most HP Omen BIOS versions have issues when:

  • A USB keyboard/mouse sends input too early

  • An external SSD/flash drive is detected as a bootable device

  • A USB hub/dock creates a “boot loop”

  • A wireless dongle interferes with startup

  • Certain HDMI adapters trigger GPU initialization before BIOS

The system gets “stuck” trying to enumerate devices and skips the BIOS hotkey until everything is initialized — which is too late.

Fixes to Try

1. Use the correct BIOS hotkey

HP = F10
Startup Menu = Esc

Press Esc repeatedly as soon as the laptop powers on, then select:

➡️F10 BIOS Setup

Important:
Press Esc or F10 BEFORE the HP logo appears.

2. Change a BIOS setting (once you get in)

After you successfully reach BIOS one time:

Disable Fast Boot

  • Boot to BIOS

  • Go to AdvancedBoot Options

  • Set Fast Boot = Disabled

This increases the time the laptop waits for input so BIOS opens even with USB devices connected.

3. Turn off “USB Boot” or adjust Boot Order

If the problem is caused by USB drives:

  • Boot to BIOS

  • Go to System Configuration

  • Turn USB Boot = Disabled

  • Move “USB Hard Drive” to the bottom of the boot order

  • Save and exit

4. Update the BIOS

HP Omen models have had multiple BIOS updates specifically addressing USB-boot lockups.

Steps:

  • Go to HP Support Assistant or HP’s site

  • Install the latest BIOS (UEFI) firmware for your exact model

This often fixes the issue permanently.

5. Identify the problematic device

Some devices are worse than others:

  • Logitech USB dongles

  • USB-C docking stations

  • External SSDs (Samsung T7, SanDisk)

  • USB hubs with power delivery

Unplug one device at a time to see which one blocks BIOS access.

👉If you want, tell me your exact HP Omen model (e.g., “Omen 17-cb1xxx”), and what devices you normally have connected.

it might be better if you bring up OpenAI and answer the above question yourself.  Please let me know what you find out!

Uh my device is a HP-XD0015AX. I'm guessing its a 2024 model.
And as I said, its ANY USB device. Most often either my Keyboard or my mouse.

I tried mouse alone, keyboard alone, each on all the different usb ports available. But no. Unless i remove all my usb peripherals (aka mouse and keyboard, all of them unplugged) I cant enter startup menu OR the bios.

Again, i repeat, I can only successfully enter Bios or even startup menu IFF all my USB devices are removed.

And no, not pen drives or bootable media. That I can understand.
I don't use any external storage devices either, cus I know it can mess with the bios like now.

Spam pressing esc or f10 before the Omen logo leads to a black screen. I then have to force shutdown.

And, the whole problem was because of a bios update. It's the latest version available. AND i can't rollback, which is GREAT!

Yeah sorry If I sound a bit rude but its just... I spent so much time on diagnosing this. I almost lost my mind and was about to call for warranty until i figured out it was some weird bios issue.

I'll see if I have any Fast boot options available. and update if I see any changes.
Feel free to suggest fixes. At this point I'm even welcome to voodoo and black magic.

Yes, I am too having the same model and facing the same issue. Whenever my mouse is plugged in it won't go into the BIOS or the boot menu after the laptop is powered on.
I think this happened after the F.30 bios update.

HP Recommended

Yes, It happened after the F.30 Rev a bios update.
Might I ask, Did you update your bios via HP support assistant app, or via manual downloading from the website?

HP Recommended

Manually downloading from the HP website, running the setup and BIOS installs after restart.

HP Recommended

I did the same... We can only wait for a new update to fix this bios issue.

HP Recommended

Yes, no other option.

can't revert back.
