I used to have this computer, happened to me the first day I used it. You can't possibly imagine the number of times, that I have raged while I waited for it to cool down so I could reboot. I also wonder if this computer was among those with the power supply being recalled for melting and charring. Never again will I buy an HP computer because of this first impression. Couldn't even handle a simple MMO for about ten minutes.

I have sucsefully got mine to work without overheating, hopefully this fix will help others having this issue... first i replaced the cpu grease with a cooling sheat between heatsink and cpu, then i put another thick cooling sheet on the other side of the systemboard (a large one to cover the plate and cpu, then i removed the plastic on the bottom of the keyboard which inproves airflow and allows the back of the keyboard to be a passive cooling device and the thick cooling sheet to touch the back of the keyboard. runs without overheating now.
here is a cooling sheet that will probobly work fine, mine was gray.
