HP Elite x2 1012 G1 PXE Boot

There is no PXE in the latest bios with the thunderbolt dock.  Read back a few posts, you will need the HP (or other) USB network adapter to PXE Boot.

If you are using the Thunderbolt docks, you can jump through the hoops that I menioned back in July. (Use  USB drive in the X2 1012's USB port to boot and load drivers for the dock.  Use the dock for network access to your imaging/management tools.)

I'm having to go this route because each of my deployed systems will have the Thunderbolt dock, and I always have a USB drive on me, but I'm not going to walk around with USB-RJ45 adapters on me all the time.  Since my USB boot image is pretty much a mirror of my PXE image anyway, this solution works for me.

Cause #1 043 - Vendor Specific Info option on DHCP scope is causing our PXE image not to load. PXE booting in our lab works because we don't have that option set. However, our production network does and we can't remove it becaus ewe need it on. Our netowrk guru explained we could build on another subnet with helper addresses pointing to the deployment servers, but I'm interested to know what's in the tablet that causes this. None of our other HP desktops or laptops have this problem.

We found two solutions for this problem.

The problem with the HP/Realtek USB-Lan adapter (N7P47AA) is its internal flash drive with the driver on it.
So when SCCM installs the image and reboots to install the devices, the USB-LAN adapter switches to the flash drive mode and so no LAN device is found.

Solution 1
There is a tool from HP to disable the flash drive on the USB-LAN adapter.

Warning:
This will disable the automatic installation feature of the dongle.
Afterwards, you will have to install the driver manually.
This change is irreversible!

If the first method is too radical and you don't want to live without this "driver on board" feature of the dongle, then try the following:

Solution 2
After the installation of the image, the notebook/pc reboots to install the devices (preparing devices... counting up to 100%).
During this step you will see, that the USB-LAN adapter light isn't flashing -> flash drive mode.
So unplug the dongle for a couple of seconds and plug it in again. Now the USB-LAN adapter light should start flashing and the task sequence continues without any further problems.

Both solutions worked in our environment.
Hope this will help you, till HP delivers an update for the thunderbold docking station so we can use this to install our X2 devices.

Hi I want to deploy OS Win8.1 x64 to the HP Elite x2 1012 G1 by SCCM PXE。 When I import HP Winpe5.0 or Winpe 10.0 (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/softpaq/WinPE10.html) to the boot image, it errors "some drivers can not be import success"。 The HP Elite x2 1012 G1 can receive the PXE, and then the computer screen black(no response). Can you give me some suggestions? Thank you!

Hi - I wondered if I could get some help on this issue too!

I've had a look at various different HP Forums and there are some solutions in here but aren't working for me.

The problem is that I'm trying to capture/Deploy onto these laptops but I cannot for the life of me, get them connected via PXE.

I'm using a Startech USB to Ethernet which works in the OS (Windows 10) but doesn't seem to be getting any power in the BIOS as there are no lights flashing.

I've played around with the BIOS Settings as I need it NOT to be UEFI, as our WDS System doesn't work off UEFI (Which is a whole other box of issues).

I've tried updating the BIOS which is now at 1.19, but whenever I turn off UEFI (even when UEFI is enabled), I go to the Boot Menu and there is NOTHING to do with booting from LAN, or USB (as I'm using a USB to Ethernet). 

I do not have a dock, but I was wondering if there was a solution without using the HP Usb to ethernet or the dock, because other computers are fine with booting into PXE without a LAN port. 

We need to deploy 41 of these machines across the staff body, so building them individually is out the question.

Any help is appreciated as I'm banging my head against the wall at this point.

I'Ve changed the 'Thunderbolt Security Level' to 'PCIe and DisplayPort - No Security' under BIOS->Advanced->Port Options

Then PXE works with the Thunderbolt dock

This is right! We also found this solution some time ago...
If you reduce the Thunderbolt security level in BIOS (in the port options), you can stage the device using the Thunderbolt dock.
We use the same solution for the new Elitebook 1040 G4, which is also using a Thunderbolt dock.
