Seen hundreds of people with this problem now. It's clearly a serious issue with this laptop model.
For 2 years this laptop has been running fine. I used it as a development machine for work because it has a low power consumption. Recently it had issues starting up. I powered it on, it would boot up linux, and then when it had FINISHED booting up linux, it would power off.
There was no error, and there was no warning.
I had a spare HP 820 laptop, so obviously i replaced the powersupply. That didn't work. When I swapped the battery, it booted up fine.
Today, just a week later, i booted it up, and joy. Same behaviour, it boots all the way up and then powers down again without warning.
There's clearly something wrong with the power / charge circuitry on this laptop. I tried to remove the battery, but again, the laptop doesn't boot past linux. What the heck is going on on this machine?
I don't expect a resolution for this because i've seen the standard of replies that people have made here, trying to push resolutions into private discussions and people asking obvious questions like replace the charger and other timewasting rubbish, i'm just here to post this and warn others what a nightmare this laptop is.

Just to add to this, before i get people commenting that it's linux and it's not supported etc etc etc. I took the hard drive out, and transplanted it into an identical laptop of the same brand / model etc, and it worked completely fine. So it's not a software thing.
Note also that the design of this laptop is absolutely shocking.
When removing the hard drive, there's nothing to hold onto while you pull it out other than this weak plastic wrapper, with a tab on it to pull on. Unfortunately when i pulled this tab, the plastic wrapper ripped clean off.
Furthermore the back of the laptop is a real fiddle to get back on. One of the laptops i can get the back on, on the other the latch is now jammed and i can't unjam it, i don't know why.
This is the worst laptop i've ever owned. It's unreliable, it's clearly got electronic issues. The build quality is an absolute disgrace. I sincerely hope that HP get their act together otherwise they are just going to lose business.
