HP Envy 17M
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy thats out of warrantee that had the following issue. It had a standard 7200 RPM "hybrid" drive that was basically repeatedly parking the HDD R/W heads, basically at an audiable rate. Essentially it would hum for a bit while the PC freezed, and then continue on. Eventually it died altogether, and gave a boot device not found. I disassembled the old HDD that failed and found that it finally quit by basically ramming the R/W heads past the internal park stop in the drive itself and actually ripped them off the arm. Not a surpise given how fast it was repeatedly parking the heads and resuming. I chaulked it up to a bad HDD.

I replaced it with a solid-state Samsung SSD drive, and it seemed to work well, but the more software I put on it, the more it would hang. Basically the HDD would shut down, and the PC would BSOD. It recovers fine each time with no data loss, but after some time, it locks up again. Does this sound like a controller failure on the main board itself? I cant really see what else it could be since the new HDD is also experiencing issues. The only good thing is that the new one disables itself before self-destructing.

After this thing sat around collecting dust for awhile I finally decided to order a new motherboard and it fixed the issue. The internal controller on the MB must have gone bad. I also had a look at the old HDD and it failed rather spectacularly. Evidently it managed to rip the R/W heads off, at which point it stopped working.

This looks like a possible hardware failure either with the CPU or Motherboard. Before you come to any conclusion, I would suggest you try these steps here:

I would suggest here is to Run an extensive system test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive from F2(Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Depending on the test results I would suggest here is to check this:
