HP ENVY dv6-7214nr Notebook PC

Hello all,

I have a laptop that’s a few years out of warranty and just shut itself down yesterday. It was running fine, and then just shut down. I was able to restart it briefly, but then it shut itself off again and won’t restart. When I turn on the power, the internet button flashes orange and the caps lock button blinks nonstop. There doesn’t seem to be a discernible rhythm. Not three blinks. Not five blinks. It just blinks. Initially, the fan wouldn’t come in, but after I tried every suggestion on the internet, the fan now runs, but still no boot up.

I have tried holding EVERY imaginable combination of buttons recommended during power up. I reseated the memory. I’ve started it on just battery and also just a/c. I’ve pulled the CMOS battery and replaced. I saw somewhere that one YouTube user suggested downloading a BIOS update from the HP site onto a flash drive and that would magically  ring it back to life on start up, but there are no update drivers available for my elderly laptop.

I’m flat out of ideas, but have a TON of work saved on this computer…and no. I wasn’t smart enough to create a back-up. I’m heartened that anything is still happening at all, but could really use some professional support.
Thanks.

That must be hard. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I understand that your HP notebook is not working correctly. This seems like a hardware related issue if you have already performed the steps from the document HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01997899, No Power or no Boot and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your computer. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: https://www.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html
