HP Envy x360 Laptop will not power on.  Best Buy thinks it is a fried motherboard.  They tried different adapters and nothing worked.  I tried the hard rest tips online, plug in plug out, etc.  Nothing seemed to work.

Hi @BillsBrokenPC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I’m sorry to hear about your HP Envy x360 not powering on. It sounds like you've already tried several common troubleshooting steps. Here are a few additional suggestions that might help:

1. Inspect Power Source

  • Check the Power Adapter: Ensure that the power adapter is providing the correct voltage. If possible, test it with a multimeter.
  • Use a Different Outlet: Try plugging the charger into a different power outlet to rule out outlet issues.

2. Remove External Devices

  • Disconnect all peripherals (USB devices, external monitors, etc.) to eliminate any potential conflicts.

3. Perform a Hard Reset Again

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery, if applicable) and try to power it on.

4. Check Battery Status

  • If your laptop has a built-in battery, check if there’s an option to reset it:
    • Some HP laptops have a pinhole reset. Look for a small pinhole on the bottom of the laptop, which can be used to reset the battery.

5. Inspect the Power Button

  • Ensure the power button isn’t stuck or damaged. Sometimes, physical issues with the button can prevent powering on.

6. RAM Reseat

  • If you’re comfortable doing so, open the laptop and reseat the RAM modules. A poor connection can sometimes prevent power on.

7. BIOS Recovery

  • If you suspect a BIOS issue and you can get the laptop to power on for a brief moment, try accessing the BIOS recovery by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or ESC) immediately after powering on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
