HP ENVY x2 - 12-e051na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have this notebook and the previous owner has done a secure erase.

I am trying to install windows 10 onto this device by a USB boot media from windows media creation tool, however I can’t get it to boot into it.

Its not on the boot selection tool, just shows ‘select efi boot media’. Secure boot is off but just can’t get it to find it on the boot menu.

What do I need to do in order to install windows 10 on my device? This device only has x1 USB C Port.

Thanks in advance.

Right,

This has been way more hassle then its worth. I have managed after a couple of days to be able to use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and boot Windows 10 onto it. However it hasn't been that simple of 'plug and play'

This Laptop/Notebook only has x1 USB C port and that is it. So when getting the HP Cloud Recovery Tool booted into the laptop, it informs me that I can't restore the laptop in battery mode... The laptop has only 1 port... So I had to buy a HP USB C Dock in order to have power and use the USB which is ludicrous.

Now, Windows 10 S is installed on the system, I would like Windows 10 Home, can I upgrade this? Sure I can, through the app store... Which is no longer supported because its out of date. So I try to update it. The Update service has been stopped. can I go into the service manager... NOPE Windows 10 S doesn't allow this. I am in a loop here.

However I'm halfway there, and spending most of my time googling about Windows 10 S to try and sort this out so it can be used as a decent computer.

P.s. Rufus tools wouldn't boot from the USB tool, and tried multiple settings like GPT, MBR different formats and windows 10/8

Hi, if your laptop has a CD/DVD drive you can install Windows 10 with an installation CD.

There is a windows 10 installation CD on Amazon you can purchase. I can share the link with you if you are interested in buying it.

This is what it looks like.

Hi, @KyleJackDaniels

I checked the HP cloud recovery tool database and indicated that your notebook is supported.

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

You will need to have access to another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool.

If you would prefer to clean install W10, instead of automatically making the installation media with the media creation tool, download the ISO file instead and use the free Rufus utility to transfer the ISO file to your flash drive.

Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

Select the GPT partition scheme in the Rufus utility, and hopefully you will be able to boot from the EFI file option.
