I have a notebook dv3 4170se with its original windows.It has spalashtop.
I encountered the moving mouse with black page instead of giving the user name and log on!
I read your posts and did the same as you said but in one the command it ask me something to choose the cd drive. that unfortunately I secelted NO! After that the pages is shown:
windows failed to start! It recommend to restart and to insert the windows cd and select repair computers! When I restar this is repeated!
File :\boot\bcd status 0cc0000098
Info: The windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid os enrty!
I could not be able to be in command prompt when I press F8!
I have no access to command prompt!
I appreciate it if you kindly help me to solve this problem!

Hello! I know this posts is a couple of years old but I just encountered this problem a few days ago (HP Laptop with blank screen and only the cursor showing). Anyway, I hope there's an update to your solution? I can't seem to find a link where I can download the ISO for Windows 7. I searched at Microsoft but the product key that came with my device wouldn't allow me to download the ISO. It says I should contact the manufacturer of my device. By the way, the blank screen problem doesn't happen all the time. I'd say 5 times out of 7. I don't know if this helps, but I can still access the HP Tools Drive in my laptop. Thanks in advance!
