After updating to windows 11 its not booting.

inaccesible boot device.

 

Trying to  fresh install windows 11 and the same problem.

 

any ideas? some compatibility isuue?

After fresh install the notebook booted ok into desktop,  after first reboot return to the inaccesible boot device problem.

The issue of the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error after updating to Windows 11 or attempting a fresh install can often be caused by various factors including compatibility issues, driver problems or BIOS configurations. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve this issue:

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup by pressing F10 repeatedly during startup.
  • Ensure that the SATA Configuration is set to the correct mode (AHCI or RAID, depending on your setup). For most consumer laptops, AHCI is usually the default and recommended setting.
  • Disable any unnecessary boot devices or peripherals which might conflict with the boot process.
  • Save changes and exit the BIOS setup.

Update Drivers:

  • If the system previously booted into Windows 11, attempt to boot in Safe Mode:
    • Power on your device and interrupt the boot process three times consecutively (force shutdown during Windows loading screen).
    • On the fourth start, Windows should boot into the Recovery environment (WinRE).
    • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options" > "Startup Settings", press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode.
  • Once in Safe Mode, update all essential drivers via the Device Manager, especially focusing on storage, SATA, and disk drivers.

Use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE):

  • Boot to WinRE by interrupting startup or using a Windows installation media.
  • Select "Repair your computer" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced Options".
  • Perform a System Restore if a point before the update exists, or use Startup Repair.

Check for Compatibility Issues:

  • Even though Windows 11 claims broad compatibility, ensure that no critical drivers or firmware updates are outstanding by checking with HP Support Assistant or the HP website for your specific model drivers.

i have to reinstall windows 10 to make booteable the laptop.

 

maybe some known driver problem or incompatibility with windows 11?

HP Notebook 15-dy1071wm supports Windows 10 not Windows 11.

Recommended Solution Path

Identify the Storage Controller in Windows 10

Boot into Windows 10

Open Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers or Storage controllers

Note the exact name of the controller (e.g., Intel RST, AHCI Controller, etc.)

 

BIOS Settings Check (Again)

Even if previously reviewed, confirm:

  • SATA Mode = AHCI (or RAID only if HP specifically uses it)
  • Disable Secure Boot temporarily during installation
  • Enable Legacy Support (if available), then re-enable UEFI after install
