OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 ICTO Base Units
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Omen 16. The power light comes on at the AC connection, but nothing else. I’ve tried holding the power button for multiple lengths of time both connected and disconnected to power. I’ve tried connecting an external monitor via USB power and it also wouldn’t turn on. As far as I’m aware the battery isn’t removable. I purchased this device July 22, 2023  however I only purchased a year long warranty. I started having issues with the laptop almost immediately after the year was up. Mostly with glitchy screens and screen going black, but usually was able to turn it back on after a few minutes.

Hi @Clay27272,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Omen 16 is experiencing a power issue, possibly related to the battery, motherboard, or screen failure. Since the AC power light turns on, but the laptop itself doesn’t boot or show a display, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Basic Power Reset (Battery Drain)

Even though the battery isn’t removable, you can still force a power drain:

  1. Unplug the charger from the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30-60 seconds to drain any residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in and try turning it on.

Check for BIOS Recovery

If the laptop isn’t turning on, it might be a BIOS issue. Try forcing a BIOS recovery mode:

  1. Turn off the laptop completely.
  2. Hold down the ‘Windows’ key + ‘B’ key together, then press the Power button while still holding those keys.
  3. Release all keys after a few seconds.
  4. If BIOS recovery starts, follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Display Issues

Since you mentioned previous glitchy screens, the laptop may be turning on, but the display isn’t working. To check:

  • Turn on the laptop and listen for fan noise or keyboard backlight turning on.
  • If you suspect a display failure:
    • Try shining a flashlight at an angle on the screen—if you see a faint image, the backlight is faulty.
    • Connect an external monitor via HDMI (since USB-C video output might not work if the laptop is off).

If there’s no display on the external monitor, the GPU or motherboard may have failed.

Check for Loose RAM or SSD

Sometimes, a loose RAM or SSD connection can prevent the laptop from booting.

  • If you’re comfortable opening the laptop (or have a tech-savvy friend):
    1. Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
    2. Remove the back cover using a screwdriver.
    3. Reseat the RAM and SSD (carefully take them out and reinsert them).
    4. Close the laptop and try powering it on.

Let me know what happens.
