No the machine is Windows only, I was booting from USB with Ventoy, which allows selecting from multiple ISO files to boot, I have win11, win10, ubuntu and debian on it.  So I selected Ubuntu live.  Right now I'm running the HP diagnostics again. But I will try your suggestions once this test finishes. I normally keep a USB like that since it can be less invasive and I never know when I might need to install Windows or Linux 🙂

Bios does not show any drives at all. The F2 tested drive 1, the error message says drive 2.

Neither Ubuntu nor HP Diagnostics USB show a second drive, but if it failed enough, it might not even show.  Sounds like time to open her up...

I do really appreciate the help.

Ok, results

Scrolled off the top is the USB drive.

IMG_20240919_133204991.jpgsmartctl only shows  the one drive

When UBUNTU mounts the SSD, it does not show the /Windows folder, so surgery is next.

Well, opening it showed a 1TB HDD and the SSD which I replaced a while back.  I pulled the HDD and plugged it into an adapter I use for cloning, and it would not spin up at all.

Booting the OMEN with just the M.2 SSD returned "No OS" so Windows was on the spinning disk not the SSD  (a BIG **bleep**).

A replacement is on order, SATA SSD this time.  Unfortunately I found the backups were overwritten (gotta write a script to watch for that) so I'm facing a rebuild.  I am searching for my USB key the recovery is on since the recovery folder can't be accessed.

I have the ISO for Windows 10 and for Windows 11 available. You mentioned some HP stuff I can grab to reinstall the factory install, that would be OK, I can roll it forward to Win11.

This machine has only been hosting steam remote play for the last year or so.  I also could install Linux.
