Hello,

We recently set up a new HP OmniBook X 17 (Copilot+ PC). I believe the model may be 17-dd0013dx (purchased from Best Buy), though I do not have the serial number available at the moment.

We are experiencing a recurring issue where the system becomes partially unresponsive during normal use, particularly while composing emails or typing in documents.

The behavior is as follows:

  • Initially, the Enter key stops responding (pressing Enter does not create a new line).

  • Shortly after, the keyboard becomes completely unresponsive.

  • No additional keystrokes register.

  • The system does not blue screen.

  • The display remains on.

  • Restarting the computer does not permanently resolve the issue (it's recurring).

  • The problem has occurred during email composition and document editing.

  • This is a brand new system.

There is no visible error message when this happens.

We have not yet determined whether:

  • An external keyboard behaves the same way.

  • CPU or memory usage spikes when the issue occurs.

  • The issue is specific to a particular application.

We are trying to determine whether this is:

  • A known issue with this OmniBook X / Copilot+ model,

  • A Windows 11 ARM driver issue,

  • A keyboard driver problem,

  • Or a potential hardware defect.

Has anyone experienced similar input freezes on this model? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi @modestmouse24,

I understand your HP OmniBook X 17 keyboard becoming unresponsive after several minutes of use. Let’s go through a few checks.

The HP OmniBook X 17-dd0013dx keyboard freeze is likely a driver or firmware conflict with Windows 11 on ARM.

Update System and Firmware

  • Open Settings > Windows Update.
  • Select Check for updates.
  • Install all updates, including optional updates.
  • Restart the system.
  • Repeat until no updates remain.

Reinstall Keyboard and Chipset Drivers

  • Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  • Expand Keyboards.
  • Right-click the internal keyboard device.
  • Select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the computer.

Confirm Whether Issue Is Hardware or Software Related

  • Connect an external USB keyboard.
  • Continue working until the issue occurs.
  • Check if the external keyboard remains functional.
  • If external keyboard works, issue is internal keyboard-related.
  • If both stop responding, issue is system-level.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Shut down the computer.
  • Power on and repeatedly press Esc.
  • Press F2 for diagnostics.
  • Run the Keyboard test.
  • Complete all system tests.

If the internal keyboard stops while an external keyboard works normally, the issue is likely a keyboard controller or ribbon connection fault. If both stop responding, it may indicate a firmware or Windows ARM driver issue.

I hope this helps.
