Pavilion 14-al062nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had an ongoing issue with my Pavilion laptop for nearly as long as I have owned it. For the 1 year of tech support that came with the laptop, I would call and they would temporarily fix the issue for me, but my warranty has expired and I am still experiencing the same issue on a weekly basis.

Essentially what happens is I am using my laptop as anyone else would, word processors, internet browsers, and the computer freezes and has to be powered off. When it boots back up, it loads the "HP BIOS Update" screen.

The System BIOS is being recovered. The recovery will take several minutes to complete.

It goes through the process and reaches 100% progress. "The System BIOS recovery is complete."

The computer then turns off, and when it loads back up again goes right back to the "HP BIOS Update" and repeats the process...over and over...please help me get out of the twilight zone!

Hi @fliggil,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the Bios update on your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC:

  • If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

  • If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  • With the pogo through the wer off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  • With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

I would suggest here is to save the latest Bios update on a flash drive.

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted):  Click here

Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC

Step 2: Find the BIOS updates

Step 3: Download and install the BIOS update

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

This unfortunately has not fixed the issue. I have tried every single solution I've see posted by at least 20 other people with the same issue.this computer simply does not function how it should and it is a constant struggle to get it to boot up.

Will someone ever help me? Why won't HP acknowledge responsibility for a faulty machine. Every time I called support they blamed faulty software. Yes, it is HP BIOS Update software! I have owned computers for 25+ years and never experienced anything as frustrating as owning this computer and the lack of help I have received in fixing a Manufacturer defect.
