HP Pavilion - 15-cs3067st
Microsoft Windows 11

Whenever I power up my laptop, I experience a black screen, and the screen flashes until I can restart it. Then, it works normally without any problems.

I have checked for a BIOS update, but none are available. The last HP Support Assistant message said that "The following updates are no longer applicable for my system and have been removed."

"-HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processor)

Please, Help!

Hi @Hartful,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you might consider.

  • Check Display Cable Connection: Sometimes a loose or damaged display cable can cause these kinds of issues. If you're comfortable opening your laptop, check the connection between the screen and the motherboard.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can usually find the latest drivers on the HP website or through the GPU manufacturer’s site (NVIDIA or AMD).
  • Power Reset: Perform a power reset by shutting down the laptop, unplugging it, and removing the battery (if removable). Hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power, then reconnect everything and power it back on.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, updating Windows can fix display-related issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security and check for updates.
  • Boot in Safe Mode: Booting into Safe Mode can help determine if the issue is related to a driver or software conflict. If the problem doesn’t occur in Safe Mode, it might be a software or driver issue.
  • Test with an External Monitor: Connect your laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue persists. If the external monitor works fine, the problem might be with the laptop's display or related hardware.
  • Reset BIOS to Default: Since there’s no new BIOS update, resetting the BIOS to its default settings might help. Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during startup (usually by pressing F2, F10, F12, or ESC) and look for an option to reset to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
