This laptop has bios locked. It will not boot from dvd/cd or usb drive. I've chatted with HP Support, I tried the instructions he gave. They are below. I created the D:HP_TOOLS folder and rename and copied the bin file. I tried the Windows key + up arrow + down arrow many times. The laptop just booted straight into Windows 7. I never got a message saying "SMC command handled successfully".
This laptop has 6gb ram running a 64gb SSD drive, running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
Steps:
1.Save attached smc.bin file in this e-mail to the root of a USB flash drive “(or save the file to the root of drive 😧 HP_TOOLS*)”
- Power the notebook OFF.
3.** Hold down windows key + up arrow + down arrow and power the notebook ON.
- Let go of the keys at the HP splash-screen.
- Press F10 repeatedly at the screen that shows up with a message, "SMC command handled successfully"
- This should bring you into the BIOS where you need to choose “Reset BIOS security to factory default” and confirm by choosing Yes.
- Exit the BIOS, saving changes.
